Community Outreach and Survivor Support Manager

Job Overview:

The Community Outreach and Survivor Support Manager is responsible for recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers, practicum students, and interns for the awareness and education activities of the Colon Cancer Prevention Project.

The manager will expand the number of active volunteers in Louisville and throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, particularly in the areas of the highest colon cancer rates. The manager will develop a plan to raise awareness and education in these communities with a goal of increasing the screening rates to reach 80% by 2018, and develop and implement a plan to evaluate the impact in those communities.

The manager will develop a cultivation plan for volunteers, maintain strong communication with them, and manage volunteer training, thank you events, orientations, and more. The manager will maintain volunteer records and contacts, and will help identify members for the Project’s committee openings as needed.

The manager also will identify and oversee fundraising opportunities across the state that will meet the Project’s goals of raising awareness, increasing screenings, and raising funds for the fight to end colon cancer. The manager will work to meet specific fundraising goals.

The manager will manage survivor support for the Project, developing and implementing a strong survivor support plan across Kentucky. As part of this role, the manager will oversee the Project’s Fighters’ Fund program and assist with fundraising activities for that program.

The manager will also oversee a number of administrative roles with the Project, and assist with major events, colon cancer resources, and other roles as necessary. The manager will coordinate with the Project’s Health Educator in education programs and assisting with resources for Community Health Centers.

Preferred Skills/Experience

We are looking for an employee who is self-motivated, organized, has excellent communication skills, and has proficiency with Word and Excel. Experience with volunteer programs and/or in supervising or organizing groups is beneficial. A passion for the cause is a plus, as is experience in fundraising, the ability to think outside the box, and experience with health education.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Two years of related experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.

Special Requirements:

  • Must have driver’s license and access to travel locally and throughout the state.
  • Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including some nights and weekends.
