We are super excited to recognize our April Volunteer of Month, Sally Uhde, who is #kickingbutt in many ways! Sally is involved in a lot of the work we do, but particularly, she helps us with our work in Lexington and we are very grateful! Learn more about Sally below!
*How did you get involved with The Project?
I got involved because my husband, Dave, was diagnosed at age 50 with colon cancer, and he passed at age 57. My daughter and I began volunteering for the CCPP soon after. My daughter went on to become the Executive Director of the CCPP!
*What is most meaningful to you as a volunteer for the Project?
The most meaningful thing about volunteering for the CCPP is educating people of the symptoms of colon cancer, when and how to get screened for it and to know your family history. My husband was not aware of any of this.
*What is your motto you live by?
One of my husband’s favorite mottos was said by John Lennon: ” Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
*If you could back and meet a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give?
My husband did not like to go to the doctor, so I wish I had encouraged my husband to regularly visit the doctor.
*What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is pizza!
*What is one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?
My husband and I met on a bus tour in Europe in 1971. He was traveling with his parents, and I was traveling with my brother and his wife. We met in London, England and remembered very little of Europe thereafter!
*If could have any type of wild animal as a pet, what animal would pick and what would name it?
I think I’d have a wildcat and name it Cal!
*If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
I’d go to Greece. I’ve always wanted to see Greece, and it’s on my bucket list!
*If you could meet places with anyone in the world (dead or alive), who would choose and why?
I would choose the disciple, John, because he was so close to Jesus
