ANNOUNCING THE SECOND RECIPIENT OF OUR NEW PROJECT INNOVATION GRANT PROGRAM!

Yesterday we announced the first recipient of our first-ever Project Innovation grant program, and now we are excited to formally announce the second recipient: Big Sandy Health Care, Inc.!

The team will be implementing components of a multi-faceted awareness program (“AWARE Project”) which has a goal to educate and increase awareness of colon cancer to support the goal of 80% screening for colon cancer by 2018 in Martin and Pike counties in Kentucky. The project will focus on a media campaign (including printed materials, billboard media, radio/broadcast public service announcements [PSAs], website, and social media), and outreach programs in three locations in the two counties. The population intended to benefit most from the AWARE Project is the adult population age 45 and over.

On September 25, 2015, Community Outreach and Survivor Support Manager Lindy Reinhardt traveled to Prestonsburg, Ky. to meet the team, deliver the “check”, take some pictures, and talk more about the project that they have already began recently. The team shared more about their work in the primary service area for Big Sandy Health Care: Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike counties in Eastern Kentucky (also known as the Big Sandy Area Development District). The colon cancer screening rates in Martin and Pike counties fall short of the national average, but this project will hopefully bring positive change to those statistics and help people in the area become more aware about colon cancer and the options for screening.

We look forward to receiving updates on the progress of the project, and we thank the team for the work they do and will be doing as part of this project!

Stay tuned for more information to come about our Project Innovation program – your project could be one selected to receive funding in the next cycle of Project Innovation. Don’t forget to talk to your doctor TODAY about the options for a timely, life-saving screening!
