YOU DID IT! Thanks to your support, this month our 100th colon cancer fighter received a grant to help with necessities such as co-pays and transportation to treatment. Your donations to the Fighters’ Fund program over the last 2 years have brought so many smiles and so much relief to our Kentucky and Southern Indiana neighbors! Many thanks to the many donors and committee members that have helped make this possible!
Read what Mia Starcevic, a new member of the Fighters’ Fund Committee, had to say about being part of this awesome milestone:
“I fondly remember each 100th day of school of my elementary years. The teachers would adorn themselves with festive outfits sprinkled with 100 different candies that they would periodically bestow upon lucky students throughout the day. Since then, I have celebrated many 100th celebrations, but the most rewarding of them all has been awarding the 100th Fighters’ Fund check to an extremely deserving survivor currently undergoing a battle with colorectal cancer.
I am especially fortunate in that I was able to witness this monumental occasion in my very first meeting as a committee member. My fellow committee members were undoubtedly even more excited to see that months, and even years, of their generous participation have helped so many people. Since beginning volunteering with CCPP in April, I have dedicated many of my volunteer hours to collecting, reading, and recording the many Fighters’ Fund applications. With each application, I was able to paint a mental picture of each survivor and their unique struggle, which, at times, was difficult to even comprehend. When the quarterly committee meeting finally rolled around, it was more fulfilling than I could have even imagined to see the efforts come to fruition. As a committee, we were able to award 18 grants this quarter to provide a small bit of aid to courageous survivors. The Fighters’ Fund sheds a ray of hope in a bleak situation, and I am confident that the program will continue to strengthen and to grow so that we can extend that ray of hope even farther across the state.”
