Join Jordan! Volunteer Today!

jordan-vol-picWe are pleased to introduce September’s volunteer/ Intern of the Month Jordan Licata! Jordan is our programming intern. He helps with Fighters’ Fund, events, and so much more! To learn more about Jordan and the many ways he kicks butt, check out below!!!!!

*How did you get involved with The Project?

·      I got involved with The Project through a friend and previous Project intern from the University of Louisville. She asked me if I wanted to volunteer at the Bottoms Up Bash which I excitedly said ‘Yes!’. At the Bash I was IMMEDIATELY hooked! The people involved with the project were so full of energy, spirit, and passion (plus were covered head to toe in blue) that I knew I had to join the team.

*What is most meaningful to you as a volunteer for the Project?

·      We do so many fantastic things at the Colon Cancer Prevention Project, it is so hard to narrow down what is most meaningful. What impacts me the most at The Project is our Fighters Fund program. For those who don’t know, the Fighters Fund is a grant program available for low income individuals currently battling colon or rectal cancer. The $200 grant can be used for people to help defer prescription costs, gas costs, or even just to keep their lights on. It is eye-opening to read Fighters Fund Applications and see how strong people battling this disease have to be, not only for themselves but for their families and loved ones

*What is your motto you live by?

·      The motto I live by is “Naught without Labor”. What this means to me is that I need to work for everything that I have. I strive to reach my goals through hard work and perseverance and through striving to be the best form of myself.

*If you could go back and meet a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give?

·      If I could give advice to my younger self, it would definitely be to keep in touch with old friends and relationships. I’m usually pretty bad about keeping long distance friendships and that is definitely something that I would like to change.

*What is your favorite food?

·      My favorite food is Sushi and anything with raw Tuna!!!

*What is one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?

·      An interesting fact about me that not many people know is that I teach an introductory Public Health class at the University of Louisville where I am also a Junior double majoring in Biology and Public Health

*If could have any type of wild animal as a pet, what animal would pick and what would name it?

·      If I could have a wild animal as a pet it would definitely be a moose and I’d name it Ralph. Moose are the most majestic creatures on the planet and I would love to see Ralph roaming throughout my farm. My ULTIMATE dream is to ride atop a moose and gracefully trot through meadows, woods, and forests.

*If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

·      If I could have a wild animal as a pet it would definitely be a moose and I’d name it Ralph. Moose are the most majestic creatures on the planet and I would love to see Ralph roaming throughout my farm. My ULTIMATE dream is to ride atop a moose and gracefully trot through meadows, woods, and forests.

*If you could trade places with anyone in the world (dead or alive), who would choose and why?

·      If I could switch places with anyone it would definitely be Ronald Reagan. It would be really interesting to see the immediate impacts of his economic, social, and political reforms.
